A friendly atmosphere prevailed as Alice Springs players returned to the courts for the first games of the season on Friday evening. This was despite most games through all the grades being pretty one sided contests. Helping with the ambience of the night, and Saturday morning, were the visitors with the NETFIT Festival, including former Australian Diamond captain Sharni Norder, who moved around the courts and sitting with coaches to help with their coaching.

But it was the players who made the biggest contribution to the spirit of the games. Youngsters Molly Southam and Lucy Nicolai led the way for Rovers Complete Construction against Federal Eastside Red. After a relatively even first half (18-15) Rovers shot away in the second scoring 31 to 12. A pleasing feature for Rovers was the return of Piper Nicolai who played three quarters shooting 20 goals after missing all of the 2021 season.

A great defensive opening quarter by Neata Glass Giants restricted Sundowners Alice Hospitality Supplies to four goals while it scored nine goals itself. The second term was even with both sides scoring nine goals before the Giants defence, led by Chloe Sutton, took control to enable the attack finish with a 13-2 final term for a 41-21 win.

The closest division one game was Federal Eastside White's 51-39 win against Wests Gillen Club. Nicola Metcalf shot 37 goals for Federal including 13 in the third quarter when Federal established a 14-goal lead going into the final quarter. Wests Epilogue had better fortune on the night defeating Seasons 49-22. Fourteen goals in the second and third quarters paved the way for the win giving Wests a 24-goal lead going into the final quarter.

There was a closer game in division 2 where Rovers Complete Construction defeated Seasons 42-39. A strong second half was behind Rovers' success. It scored 22 goals to 15 to gain the win. Rovers TDC defeated Wests Jaws Contracting 41-28 despite trailing 6-12 at quarter time. Good contributions by Mikayla Corbett, Emily Mills and Sophie Campbell turned the game and the scores were level at the next break before Rovers shot ahead in the second half. Federal Angels defeated Giants Alice Springs Brewing Co 63-23.

In the 17-and-unders Federal Red defeated Rovers Wreckers 57-8, Rovers Ravens overcame Wests 40-33 and Giants Bark 'n' Bath won 41-22 against Rovers Raptors.
