Round 18 – August 28th, 2021
This Saturday August 28th Alice Springs Netball Association is holding an Umpire Appreciation Round. Alice Springs Netball aims to be a community leader which demonstrates a safe, enjoyable, and open environment for all members of the community while striving to uphold the values of integrity, respect, enjoyment, fairness and transparency.
The cornerstone of this vision and values are our umpires.
The implementation of Umpire Appreciation Round aims to promote the magnificent job that our umpires do each week. Their commitment and willingness to volunteer their time allows 41 games of netball to be played each week without a hitch. In addition to promoting our umpires we would also like to use Umpire Appreciation Round as a tool to promote and encourage the values of sportsmanship, respect and enjoyment between all coaches, players, and officials.
What We Are Asking of All Players/ Teams:
- White Ribbon will be provided in all court boxes – ASNA encourages all players to wear this ribbon in their hair throughout the game in a sign of support to our umpires
- Their will be a gift for each umpire placed on court tables prior to the scheduled timeslot of each game. Prior to the commencement of each game, we ask the captains of both teams to present this gift to the umpire’s officiating their match. Please note, some umpires may perform double duties on the day and already be in possession of the gift. If this is the case, please shake the umpire’s hand and acknowledge the job they do to allow us to play netball.
- If you see an umpire around throughout the day, please thank them for the wonderful job they do
- A VIP Umpire area will be set-up for all umpires at the far end of court 2, from 4pm-5:30pm. Catering and water will be provided. All umpires are invited to attend the VIP area for some or all the time, chat with their fellow umpires and enjoy the games they aren’t officiating.
Once again, thank you to all our umpires. Please keep an eye on social media throughout the week for profiles and words of wisdom from some of our best and longest serving officials!
We hope everyone enjoys the day.
